We had an amazing respose to our bookmark contest with 116 Tylor students submitting entries. Mrs. Lester was our judge and chose three winners per grade level. This was a hard job! Just look at some of the amazing entries:
Our winning bookmarks are on display in the library:
A family travels from the big woods of Wisconsin to a new home on the prairie, where they build a house, meet neighboring Indians, dig a well, and fight a prairie fire.
Third grade is joining us in the library this week for solar system research. They are having fun using books to look up the diameters of planets and using what they find to create a graph. They are also learning about the moon and the sun, and researching a planet of their choice.
Taylor's second annual "Design A Bookmark" contest is underway! Check your Thursday folders for the forms. We'll have extra forms in the library as well. All you have to do is design and draw a great bookmark. You may use this year's theme of "Reading Takes You Places" or come up with your own idea. All entries are due by THURSDAY, MAY 6. The winners will be announced at GMT on Friday, May 7. Good luck and have fun!!
Guided by her rules, nine-year-old Allie works to get past being just the new girl at school, eagerly awaits the arrival of her kitten, and faces turmoil when her grandmother visits while the family is still settling into their new home.
If you participated in the Six Flags Read to Succeed program you will be getting your free Six Flags ticket shortly. I love this program because Six Flags is very special to my family. My parents met there the summer it opened. They worked in the same hamburger stand.
Last week in the library we read Caldecott Medal books. We learned that the Caldecott Medal has been awarded every year since 1938 "to the artist of the most distinguished American Picture Book for Children published in the United States during the preceeding year."
Some of our favorites at Taylor include The Funny Little Woman by Mosel, The Man Who Walked Between the Towers by Gerstein, Officer Buckle and Gloria by Rathmann, Make Way for Ducklings by McCloskey, and Black and White by Macaulay.
Hello! Welcome to the Taylor library blog. My name is Diana Huff and I have been the librarian at Taylor since 2008. Please visit this blog for news and information about the Taylor library, as well as to keep up to date on all of the fun things happening here week to week. I also post the books I'm reading (C.I.P. summaries are used).
