All last week we read Dr. Seuss books to celebrate what a wonderful author Dr. Seuss was. Students learned that he was born on March 2, 1904 and passed away in 1991. Kindergarten, first and second graders listened to fun stories like Hop on Pop, and Dr. Seuss's ABC. Third grade heard Marvin K. Mooney Will You Please Go Now!, and learned the secret behind the story. Ask your third grader which President of the United States the story was written about. Fourth grade listened to Yertle the Turtle, and learned why Dr. Seuss wrote this story. Lastly, fifth graders listened to The Sneetches, and it didn't take them long at all to figure out the meaning behind this wonderful story. It particularly resonated with them in light of their recent segregation experiment. We had a wonderul week with Dr. Seuss!
