The Texas Bluebonnet Award is a reading encouragement program sponsored by the Texas Library Association. The state Bluebonnet Committee develops an annual list of twenty recommended books for children, grades three through six. At Taylor, all third, fourth, and fifth grade students will be introduced to the program and the books during their library times. Participation in the program is voluntary. The books are available for check out here and are also easy to find at public libraries and bookstores.
The program is very simple. Each student who reads five or more Bluebonnet books is able to vote for their favorite. The votes are tallied and submitted to the state. After the statewide winning book is announced, we will host a Bluebonnet party for all of the students who participated.
Please look to the right under Library Links to find a link to this year’s Bluebonnet list. Some of the books are more appropriate for younger grades and some are better suited to the older grades. We encourage you to review the list and help your child find some great books to read!
